Sightseeing
Old Sacramento is just down "J" St. across the I-5 freeway. It is the site of the original Downtown Sacramento and dates back to to the early 1840's. It is full of exciting old shops and restaurants.
Located in Old Sacramento, the California State Railroad Museum is a complex
of historic facilities and unique attractions. Widely regarded as North
America’s most popular railroad museum, there is something here for everyone!
Throughout the year, experience lavishly restored trains, engaging exhibits,
and unique special events. Every weekend April-September, ride behind a real
steam locomotive!
The historical district and old town with their landmarks, great scenery and wonderful shopping are located just above the shores of Lake Natoma on the American River. Covering the old town takes only a short walk. At the northeastern end, the historic powerhouse and surrounding park are open to visitors daily. Built in 1895, it was first the powerhouse in the world to provide long distance electricity transmission for commercial use. You can even ride the Light rail system out to Old Folsom.
