Overview

 

The Buena Vista Museum of Natural History is a unique museum housing many one-of-a-kind fossils found right here in the foothill's of Bakersfield.  Within the 16,000 sq. ft. of exhibits visitors will view rare Miocene fossils, African, Asian and North American animal mounts, dinosaurs, Native American artifacts, including a life size interpretive Yokuts family dwelling area, gem and minerals and a significant display of petrified woods. In addition, children will enjoy the Oh! Zone, an interactive hands-on discovery center.

Its historic structures include jails, a log cabin, businesses, homes, courthouse and one room school. The award-winning hands-on oil exhibition Black Gold: The Oil Experience is entertaining and educational for all ages and children under eight particularly love the Lori Brock Children's Discovery Center.
